With nearly 25,000 small businesses contributing to the economy in San Francisco, these enterprises are a vital part of the Bay Area's economic engine. Urban Solutions ensures they get the financing and support they need to thrive.
- Over 4,200 small business clients have been supported.
- Urban Solutions has helped local entrepreneurs secure nearly $20.5 million in loans and grants to improve their businesses.
- Since opening an office in the Western Addition in 2004, we have served over 197 clients and are currently expanding our presence further.
As a direct result of Urban Solutions' support, nearly 700 jobs have been created or retained since 1992; 436 jobs have been created since 2003. 
Urban Solutions works to revitalize San Francisco's Sixth Street corridor by attracting community-serving businesses that also create jobs. Urban Solutions works with the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency to help property and business owners renovate their buildings and retail spaces in this South of Market neighborhood.
Since 2003 Urban Solutions has:
- Attracted 30 new businesses to Sixth Street.
- Reduced commercial vacancy from 43% to 9% along the Sixth Street Corridor.
Urban Solutions created and continues to support
the South
of Market Business Association (SOMBA), an
organization made up of businesses from throughout
the South of Market neighborhood.
In 2010, Urban Solutions provided business consulting services to over 300 clients. We are committed to our mission of serving underserved communities. Since 2002, we have helped people of color secure 170 loans totaling $9.4 million. More than half of loans secured in the last five years have been for women-owned businesses.

- 80% of clients without businesses that received over 8 hours of consulting services started a business after one year.

Urban Solutions helps new and existing businesses
identify ways to conserve resources and money
in neighborhoods not typically targeted for environmental
efforts. Through our green business consulting,
we help small businesses use water and energy
more efficiently and reduce waste headed to landfills.
- Over 100 clients received free-of-charge green consulting
- More than 250 participants attended our green business workshops from 2007 through 2010
- Clients saved $57,001 per year by
implementing Urban Solutions' recommendations
- Conserved over 2.1M gallons of drinkable water - enough to serve 32M glasses of water
- By composting, clients diverted 2.7 million gallons of food waste and plant matter per year from landfills
- Prevented nearly 6K tons of greenhouse gasses from entering the atmosphere - equivalent to taking over 1,100 cars off the road each year
- Saved over 100kWh of electricity per year
